ABOUT COLONEL BENITA BECKLES
Benita worked in city government for over 20 years. She worked for the City of Detroit and the City of Phoenix.
She served thirty years as a commissioned officer in the Air Force (7 years active duty/23 years reserves) achieving the rank of Colonel. As an officer she was responsible for security forces, human resources, family support, IT, supply, food services, recreation, transportation/logistics and civil engineers.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
She is a Commissioner and Vice Chairman on the Goodyear Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission and a member of the Goodyear Community Action Network (CAN), which discusses national and local issues related to law enforcement with the Goodyear Police Department. As a member of CAN, she participated in the Fentanyl Summit in January 2023.

EDUCATION
Benita Beckles has a master's degree from George Washington University and a bachelor's degree from Hampton University.

She completed the Goodyear Leadership and Development program and Goodyear Citizens Police Academy in 2022.

FAMILY
Benita has two sons and five grandchildren. Her sons and family reside in Michigan and on the island of Curacao.
Benita Beckles will bring diversity and a distinct perspective to the position. Her unique experiences as a retired military officer along with over twenty years of city government experience will benefit the city of Goodyear City Council. Benita will be a heartfelt voice for the people and commits to operate with competence and integrity. Benita says, " it will be my honor to serve on the city council for the City of Goodyear and to strive to continue working through the city's managed growth process, stable and strong financial strength, and positive quality of life for all citizens."
